Determine whether your hard disk require data recovery :
-
Get your computer system inspected for improper or loose connectors, drive configuration, defective controller/interface card.
-
Restore and determine the status of your old backups. Maybe you can manage data with them.
-
Make sure if the data in the crashed disk is really important. Also ensure whether it can be recreated in the required time frame without causing any time, financial and business loss.
-
Once you have determined that you definitely need the data to be recovered, do not let anyone run any utility. Most fix/doctor/repair programs are programmed to try to make the drive, file system or volume usable, and in the process can cause further damage/corruption. Such acts can further deteriorate/delay data recovery process.
Once you have decided to send the hard disk, fill this Hard Disk Assessment Form
Take a look at the 'Media Assessment Form' and take a print out.
Fill the form completely, sign it and return it with the hard disk.
Provide all the details. You can attach extra sheets if you want to add further information.. Write down the exact messages that were recorded on the screen.
-
